And they did not Smell like SMOKE
Hello friend,
In my Mid-week Posts, I will be sharing with you various Heart writings I have published in the past
First on my list is one of my all-time favorites… “and they did not smell like Smoke”

So I woke with these words- And they did not smell like Smoke! Then the story of the 3 Hebrew men (Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego) who refused to bow to the king’s idol came to mind. (Daniel 3:8-27) Scripture records that they were tossed into the fire and the king saw that they did not burn! Wow. That in itself is a miracle. But for me what stood out was “and they did not smell like smoke”
Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spoke, saying, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here.” Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego came from the midst of the fire. And the satraps, administrators, governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together, and they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them. (Dan 3:26-27 KJV)
The Living Bible puts it as “and they didn’t even smell of smoke!”
What came to mind about this?
When God helps a man out of his struggles, when he changes his life, when he delivers him out of a fire, out of a hustle, out of a way of life, a habit etc. God does so great a work that the man DOES NOT EVEN SMELL OF SMOKE
The work is a Total Transformation. Let me explain this.
There is no similitude between the before and after, there is no evidence that the man has been through the fire, No evidence. Just the way when looking at a butterfly, you cannot see any trace of the caterpillar, there is a metamorphosis, a complete change.
Everyone expects that once a person has a past habit, a hangover, an issue, a problem, then all their lives they will be known as the person that was delivered from the stigma, example, we know Blind Bartimaeus in Mark10:46-52, the woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5:25 (we do not even know her name!) or now we have words like ex-convicts, ex-militant etc.
I am saying that this is what is expected, so that when people want to lay reference, it is easy to identify the person. But what I am saying to you is NO Similitude, the “after” is so amazing that no one remembers the “before” it does not follow the man around. People will say “are you sure that he is the one?”
Do you get it?
Like a man goes through a financial crisis and it is expected that he will go bankrupt and go into financial extinction, then you see him on Forbes list of richest men in the world in a very short time, when God’s work is done, no one would ever remember that something went bad.
The most beautiful part is God does not remind us each time that we were once in the fire, He does not stigmatize, He does not go about letting everyone know that we were once in the fire and people will stand in the awe of the powerful work of God.
So friend,
Trust him! He does a total work and complete work in us (Philippians 1:6)
