“Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?”

-Matthew 6:27 NKJV

I can’t even imagine how much taller I and many others would have been if worrying actually did make us taller!

Joyce Meyer says worrying is like sitting in a rocking chair, as you rock you exert energy but you’re actually not making any progress. #Selah #RockingChairEffect

Too often we think about all the “what ifs” of life and well most often than not, the things we spend our time worrying about don’t actually come to pass so then we have wasted valuable time thinking on nothing! #RockingChairEffect

Let me share more of that portion of scripture,

“Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

-Matthew 6:25-34 KJV

Hope you read it carefully and thoughtfully.
So why do we worry really?

Guess on one end, it sort of gives us a false sense of power/control over situations. More like if we don’t worry or as the bible puts it “give thought to” a situation then it means it really is not important.

Worrying is contrary to the attitude that God expects of us, it fails to take God into account in the situation.

Looking at the times we currently leave in, I’m sure there is enough to worry about from passing JAMB, to getting admission to the university, finishing with good grades, getting a good job, having enough to afford a good home with electricity, fuel scarcity, Lagos traffic, find a good spouse etc.

From observation I have found this to be true, worrying is an activity that gives a #RockingChairEffect.

If only we gave our troubles to God, like really handed it over to him, we would sleep better and live longer and fuller lives *smiles*

Now this is what we should do!

“Casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully]”.

-1 Peter 5:7 Amp

Is this not WONDERFUL and REFRESHING? Not just some of our worries, but all of them, both the big and small ones.

So it is okay NOT to give thought to that issue that looks insurmountable because you have cast your care on God. And since it is with God and he is handling the matter, there is really no need having a “rocking chair experience”is there?

So what happens to our thoughts? Whether we like it or not the mind is a very active place and needs to stay active. Since it has been used to worrying, then that needs to be replaced. Just the same way we can worry while doing other things, then it means that we can think on God’s word and good things while we go about our daily activities. #Selah

God says in Philippians 4:6-8 what to do

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things”

Hope it hit home for you as it did for me. I am learning too, this is the simpler way to live, living according to the word.

Friend,

  1. Don’t be anxious or a worrier
  2. Take everything to God in prayer
  3. Leave it there!
  4. Be thankful
  5. Think on good things ( search the scripture for promises)

Worrying solves nothing. So cast your cares and leave them for God to sort because there is only one God and you are not Him!

Cheers

His handmaiden.

Thanks dear. As a friend used to say”What you cannot fix leave it for God” So why worry rather than taking it to God in prayers. Bless you dear for this piece

Long read and worth it! I love how you keep drawing us back to little quips from the Word of God. I’ve learnt from this that it’s OKAY not to worry, it doesn’t mean I don’t care but that I’ve escalated the issue to God. Simple. ? Well done!
